A More Perfect Union

ABOUT THE PLAY:

Two lawyers clerking at the United States Supreme Court have very different backgrounds and opposing political views. When they fall in love, their relationship challenges their ethics and careers, as well as threatens to expose a dirty little secret about the Highest Court in our land.  This serious comedy about justice, compromise, and what America wears underneath its fancy robes is written by Governor General’s Award Winner, Vern Thiessen (author of Einstein's Gift, Apple, Shakespeare's Will).

A More Perfect Union was commissioned by Epic Theatre Ensemble in 2006 with the generous assistance of the Alberta Foundation for the Arts and the Canada Council for the Arts. The play is being co-developed with Epic Theatre Ensemble and the Citadel Theatre in Edmonton where Vern Thiessen was Playwright-In-Residence.

ABOUT EPIC THEATRE ENSEMBLE:

From Off-Broadway to Public Schools throughout New York City, Epic Theatre Ensemble (www.epictheatreensemble.org) is a company of Citizen-Artists using theatre to inspire dialogue about vital social, ethical, and political issues. Epic Theatre Ensemble aims to build thoughtful citizenship in communities throughout the city by producing socially-minded plays Off-Broadway, and connecting these plays to the NYC Public Schools via ground-breaking, fully-integrated artist residencies. Using theatrical participation to foster dialogue on the complex relationships between individuals and their civic context, Epic's artists champion the belief that a theatre which addresses social issues is critical to the health of our democracy.
